I’ve been experimenting with making DynTopo more CPU cache efficient, and I need to run a little experiment. I’d like artists and other non-developers to participate. First download the temp-sculpt-dyntopo-hive-alloc branch of Blender and extract it somewhere:

You’ll need the following .blend file:
Cache Test.blend (4.5 MB)
Open the .blend file in the extracted branch’s blender. Click “Toggle system console” from the Window menu to bring up the console. Open some kind of a notepad and write down what CPU, how many cores and how much RAM you have.
Go back to Blender and click “Sculpt Test”.
In the console, scroll back until you find “========= Starting test.=======”, and then copy until “========== Done. avg: [time]ms ===========” into the notepad.
Next, change “Sort Mode” to “Randomize” and click “Sculpt Test” again. Copy and paste the new results from the console into the notepad, then post it here.
For me “Randomize” is about 30% slower than the default “Sort.”
If you’re feeling adventurous you can try subdividing the mesh once and running the tests again.

On my machine the build is very unstable.
Linux-6.1.0-9-amd64-x86_64-with-glibc2.36
Threadripper 3970X 32c/64t
256GB RAM
After opening vanilla Cache Test.blend
and running the test with both sorting methods all 100 iterations are done in 0.000s, but the preparation for random
takes longer.
I tried to subdivide mesh with dyntopo brush and detail size 2.0 but the build either freezes or crashes leaving:

I can’t get it to work. I’m on windows 10 home on an i7 5820k. I press sculpt test and nothing happens.
I am on linux too and I am also getting 0.000ms for the tests.
CPU: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor
RAM: 62.7 GiB of RAM
I tested it on Linux but like the others said it gives only 0.000ms results …

I attempted to run the test but I didn’t get any timing information. I’m running Linux Mint 21, I7 5820K, 6 cores, 32 GB mem. The test version of Blender doesn’t crash or give any errors, but when I run the “Sculpt Test” it does nothing. I don’t see anything in the console. The only thing that shows up in the console is…

Try to open file from extracted directory. Blender window appear for a second or so (ui not loaded, its just gray), after it just close without any error messages.
