Actualy why dyntopo doesn’t use material’s diffuse color just like sculpt mode(before dyntopo or multiress activation) do ? that would fix all the problems. It uses hardness and specular intensity anyway.
Maybe psy-fi can add some matcaps in blender.
If its possible we can choose some great matcaps here and give him.
On zbrush I use this simple blinn, it’s for me the best to sculpt and see the surface of the mesh.
The matcaps we have are really bad to sculpt.
men at work !!
wanna be part of the action !!
i guess i have to learn building blender…
@All
…looking for an easy tut for linux blender building:eek:since i failed twice

matcaps in zbrush look a little different.
Zbrush has a cavity like effect, some kind of casted shadowing. Whatever it is…
Nice matcaps can be found in sculptris.
Or, what are we waiting for? Here, let’s try some.
Using a renderer, because OGL blender shading is pointless. We alway had it.
Something that gives us the idea of how a GI illumination could look like.
How deep you have to carve to capture light.
Impossible but, you know what I mean.
Matcaps for presentation use are also pointless. We have real render engines here.
Capable to render any matcap you like. If you need it.
For sculpting, then.
lmao stop complaining about inability to sculpt realtime in cycles.
its not pointless, its all we have. without ogl or even matcap we’d just be guessing where our strokes are.
its a decent approximation.
still waiting for… https://developer.blender.org/D62
to be committed since last year so I don’t have to switch to goddamn BI.
I never use cycles to sculpt, always blender with quick pref.
I think some matcaps would be great if it’s possible.
I know.
I only use BI because spec is not available in cycles viewport.
the link above, was supposed to put spec in cycles viewport OGL lights.
If you take a mix shader with diffuse/glossy you can manipulate the highlights separately in Cycles. Works even with fresnel as fac. in GLSL
I never use cycles to sculpt, always blender with quick pref.
OK,
And, how do you preview your sculpts? In BI? Cycles?
Cycles, much better, the real thing. (as possible) I wont say IMO, it is obvious.
Especially after the implementation of cycles baking. I’m a fan. (LOL)
I’m talking about real time previewing of course.
Hit shift+Z and have a cycles preview. Then, mostly guessing, (this is all about), alter your sculpt, shift+Z again.
This is the only truth LOL
So, after a lot of searching, I came to a conclusion: A pale matcap can help me guessing a little more.
Where is it? I found one, almost there.
Funny, I never used shift+Z to look at my render ^^
I understand why you want use Cycles instead of BI.
i changed pressing “z” to be in glsl/wire,. shift-z switches default.
Any idea on how to get rid of the 3d cursor? Always in the middle.
Even the shift+S is not working in sculpting mode.
Why do we need it? But, is there a way to place it somewhere else in sculpting mode?
I don’t think we can find some use of it (in sculpt mode).
As a pivot point for some posing, deforming operations, by example. I don’t see it. Not practical.
Hide it? Please.
I changed the right mouse to something else (Brush size) 3d cursor once set in object mode far away: problem gone
input pref:
Search for f in sculpt mode for example.
Where it says “Press a key” in the simple click it with your right RMB
I would love to see the RMB be able to subtract !!
Use the only render mode
That’s a good idea, it was setup like that originally in Sculptris (and can still be like that if you select “traditional navigation” in the sculptris options) and worked really very well.
Important: press LMB before releasing RMB if not no change. … I got used to it.
Yeah only render needs a shortcut !!
ps
it is possible to set up the World’s horizon aso of the BI for solid/material display in cycles then for a background gradient in Only Render…
Only render! How I missed it? Thank you.
Now, my shortcut to sculpt mode (macusers only sorry), ctrl+D, only render, activate symmetry (no shortcut) , / num pad, … OK, this is blender.
lol michalis we talked about only render already way back when we first wanted to get rid of 3d cursor.
remember? when psy-fi tried, and ton said our opinion doesn’t matter.
has everyone forgotten, lol.
maybe put only render in the sculpt panel !
