Dyntopo tests

Hey guys, try out Dyntopo Plus. Made it for us!

Iā€™d be up for this. Themed sculpt jams are super fun. We try to have those every once in a while at work, when we can make it.
Not sure if weekly basis will be enough time. Not everyone might have the time on a weekly basis. But whatever, we can improv as we go along.

update on the last lunch crunch:

@OrAngE: 2 weeks then. A month would stale the theme. :D. Iā€™ll write the post rules this monday. It will be fun.

Good idea !!

Great sculpts guys

By the way hereā€™s a dyntopo crunch, about 30+ minutes.

Okay, guys hereā€™s the Theme:

March 21-April 15, 2017:
Techno Dino, Darkest Dungeon, Three Legged Thing, Somethingā€™s Wrong With Me

This is a 1 month theme, pick just one. Remember, this is not a contest of awesomeness but rather a test of suck or success where you improve upon something unfamiliar to your sculpting prowess. It can be of any level of finish. Everyone is welcome to try. Donā€™t be shy.

Copy paste the: ā€œMarch 21-April 15, 2017: Techno Dino, Darkest Dungeon, Three Legged Thing, Somethingā€™s Wrong With Meā€ theme and below that will be your picked theme and the picture of your sculpt. This way everybody is aware of the current theme without having to navigate the forum.

Goodluck! and have fun sculpting!

Edit: Youā€™re free to try other themes if youā€™re done with the others.

Sounds good Ice, Iā€™m in. Not sure if I can finish this within the timeframe, I wonā€™t have much time in the upcoming month. But Iā€™ll participate

Where were you thinking of posting this, in the WIP area of the forum?

Hereā€™s a sneak peak of my start, going for a caricature. Got a whole pose/scene in mind, most likely wonā€™t get it out in time.

I love the proportions here. This character design looks super interesting!

Super cool startā€¦ !

Titorial please!

Who has to do it :stuck_out_tongue:

CorpseShredder, Hadriscus . Thanks

Hereā€™s a bit of an update.
The body so far was Multirez, base from SkinMod. The head is Dyntopo. Mask poly model, then cloth sim.

Testing a quick hack posing rig

How do you make the base skin? with skin modifier I donā€™t obtain a good topology like this.

Yeah, itā€™s the Skin Modifier. Itā€™s a bit finicky at times. A lot of times even minute changes in the position or scale of a vertex will improve the generated mesh. Also adding an extra vertex near a joint can help generate a more desirable mesh. I personally havenā€™t played enough with it to get an accurate sense of the algorithm, but by doing some of the things I mentioned can allow for some finer control.

Hereā€™s a screenshot with the mesh:

  • without the skin modifier (just the MirrorMod),
  • with the Skin Modifier
  • and an extra SubSurf, level 1

Yep, it depends a lot of the luck. But you obtain really good results. I tried the same the other day and I donā€™t obtain a good result, but I will try with a mirror to see if this improve the solution.

Looking awesome, cool thing with the fingers, will you do a bool union and sculpt them in dyntopo, or will you do a full mesh retopo and then sculpt ?

This kind of time saving ā€˜kit-bashingā€™ is very interesting, also cool that you used cloth simulation for the mask, much to steal here workflow-wise!

Thanks

Yeah, the idea is to just bool union all the fingers and use dyntopo from that point. Same with the head.
Cool that the workflow is resonating.

Still heavily traumatized by our Multires. (sigh)

Me too. (askihdaskjdhbasdjhabsdhas letter to make a longer post)
