Eames (portrait)

Hi everyone. Here is the result of my practice in improving portraits and likenesses. As a prototype, I chose Tom Hardy’s character from the movie “Inception”. This is the same model that was used for Bane, but it has been significantly modified. Hardy’s appearance varied throughout different scenes of the film, and I believe his weight fluctuated noticeably. This explains why the character in the render appears large — that’s how he looked in the selected scene. While some of the actor’s features are recognizable, overall, I’m not entirely satisfied with the likeness. I’m not happy with the hair either - I did with the Blender hair nodes everything I could and still didn’t get the results I wanted. However, I’m pleased with the texture quality and the overall look — it is definitely my best result so far.

You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.

I think you’re being a little hard on yourself. I think the likeness is pretty good. Skin shader and texturing all looks really good too.

As for the hair, I think it’s just a little too dense and ‘clean’. Adding some roughness/noise would really help. ATM, it has an almost wig like quality to it. I also find that having a separate hair layer specifically for the hairline gives really fine control over how harshly (or not) the hairline interacts with the skin.

If you did want a bit of critique about the sculpt, then I’d say that I think perhaps the eye’s (the actual eyeball) are a little too small.

But as a sculpt, it’s very accomplished!
