Hi Howard
I noticed a difference of the vertex bevel modifier based on if before or after is another edge bevel modifier. No geometry overlaps here so I thought to send this to you.
Maybe a bug?

I can’t tell what is going on from these pictures, sorry. I can’t tell, but perhaps it is possible that the edge modifier changes the weight of some vertex that is needed by the vertex modifier? If that’s not the case and if there is no geometry in common yet the outcomes are different, then it seems like to be a bug. The best way for me to know for sure would be to get a bug report through the normal channel.
ah I see what you mean - the vertex bevel changes sizes based on what bevel comes first.
I was thinking about reporting a bug but then I wanted to check with you first to see if that is a bug or an issue in the modifier stack or if this combo was never tested.
I did issue a bug report + screenshots and test file
I just saw in closeup vertex I did not select being beveled
This can be triggered by simply reordering the modifier stack order
let me know what you think - I am teaching this right now at school.
@thorn we can delete this complete thread - moved it into bug report.
