Eevee mirror with reflection plane

when using a reflection plane to create a mirror, only the objects close to the mirror are in sharp focus. I need the entire reflection to be in focus both foreground & background in sharp focus. Cycles can do this but I am using Eevee. Please help.

Maybe two renders and ditch them together in photoshop?

That would be nice but this is for an animation.

There doesn’t seem to be a direct way to control the quality of a reflection plane. After a bit of testing I have some ideas:

  • Deactivate screen space reflections. For some reason, this seems to improve reflection planes. Of course, you do lose some quality in the rest of the scene.

  • Render at multiple times the intended resolution so the blur is much less noticeable, then reduce the final images back. This idea would be quite harsh on performance.

  • If the mirror is on a flat wall: make a hole in the wall where the mirror is rather than have a reflective material. Put the entire scene, character included, in a collection, make a collection instance from it, then scale that collection instance to -1 and place it so it looks like a mirror. This will only work if the room’s layout allows it.

I found a possible solution. In the mirror material setting enable Aplpha Blend.

This seems to do the trick for some reason, at least it does in a simple test. You may have to activate backface culling for it to look right.

Add a Reflection Cubermap and at Render Properties > Indirect Lightning increase Cubermap Size, them Bake Cubermap Only. Consider that Eevee has a lot of known limitations that will decrease reflection quality.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who posted suggestions! It seems changing the Blend Mode to Alpha Blend did the trick. What a great community we have here!!
