Elf Texture Paint experiment

Hi! During this past month, I’ve been experimenting with the Deep Paint addon. I’ve created this elf with many props and decorated them with lots of small, golden details. A dragon on the sheath, embroidered arrows on the quiver, shiny threads on the cloak and in the hair. Finally, I’ve placed my elf in the birch grove to practice archery, shooting at apples. As an animator, I’ve never done much texture painting, but I really enjoyed working on this project. Here’s the final result and some details.

Thank you so much, I am glad you like it

Looks like fun! I’m not entirely clear on what makes Deep Paint different than using the native greasepencil and ucupaint workflows that work in the 3D viewport - is it mainly a convenient wrapper around existing functionality for easier/quicker access and modification?

Thank you! Deep Paint has many tools, like:

  • creating materials with stylized look for the mesh
  • creating the outline in one click
  • converting grease pencil into mesh. And combined with screw modifier button, for example, it can transform a curve into a 3D object
  • tools for sky painting or creating a fog
  • texture painting brushes (watercolor, pastel), noise, alpha, and other texture nodes that can help you achieve handpaint look.

So, to answer your question, it’s both: a good wrapper for existing nodes and modifiers, but also some unique, custom tools that create room for new experiments. There might be other addons or shader \ brushes packs that also help you do that, I don’t have much experience to say for sure. But I really enjoy working with this addon.

Thank you for the detailed reply, much appreciated. I’ll have to look into it more. One more quick question - are you using it in Blender 5.0 or 5.1?

I am using Blender 5.1

I love it!!!

Aside from your really lovely char,
The textures are very well done.

Love the little details, like the arrowheads,
the logo on the bag, and much more.

The trees, in my opinion, deserve
a special mention. :slightly_smiling_face:
