I literally started sculpting yesterday and I made a face using an UV sphere I then sculpted on.
I was watching this tutorial: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXjG8jEa9SI)
I realized that even though I subdivided the shape a lot using a Multiresolution modifier, there was a place on top and on the bottom of my sphere (sculpt head) where it seemed to glitch presumably because of too many vertices?
Could you please help me understand what the problem is and how I can potentially fix this?
Sorry I am extremelly sure this is a dumb question, but I only just started yesterday and I would love to learn!
Here are some pictures, I exaggerated a bit with the sculpt brush so the glitch is more visible:
Hi and welcome to BA
Here is your problem !
A UV sphere is made of both quads and tris, as you can see here :
Try to avoid triangles, especially when using some subdivisions tools like Multires or Subsurf
By the way… Why did you use a UV sphere ?
In the tutorial he does make sure to use a cube to get a quad topolgy

Aaaah yes, stupid of me! I should have payed more attention instead of skipping to the scultping and brushes, lesson learned!
Is there a way I can fix my existing model or would I have to start over with a cube?
As you are a beginner, starting over will never be waisted time, because you will learn and do better than first time
If you really want to fix it, you can still go into edit mode, delete the top vertice, and manually retopologize the top of the sphere to make it quads. Then you go back to sculpt mode. The change will more likely looks ugly but at least it will be quads. You can use the smooth brush (S) to fix it. And then eventually work again on this part to give it back it’s desired shape.
Here is a video I made for you :
This topology is just a quick example but of course you could do something better.
If there are some tools you don’t get, I used :
- F to create a face when 4 vertices are selected
- Bridge Edge Loop (W, or use spacebar to search for it)
- CTRL+R for Loop cuts
- C for circle select
