Endless Engine wip

Here is an endless engine I started. Some things are wrong like the front wheel and I think the tilting of the truck might not be accurate to physics. First try though.
I think the background is ok. ALthough I was able to use the trick of using world settings with the sky texture and hdrmi I noticed the the light paths node to use the camera ray as the factor in a mixshader was off. So next iteration will have the nice sky of the hrmi with the nice shadows of the sky texture node.
I used the noise modifier in the graph editor to make all the parts of the truck wiggle. I parented the frame to the body and used graph editor to make the wheels rotate. I tried rigacar and that wouldn’t rig the truck at all.
If anyone knows of a good car rigging add on Please let me know.
I’ve always had mixed results with rigacar. Someone said scale the car and then use the rigacar. Might try that.

Still not sure what to do as the little story though.

Hello !

Since the shot is quite short I’m not sure it’s really worth applying a rig on that, you might manage something by animating parts by hand ( as it’s already the case) and do a very basic rig with parenting and maybe a few constraints if you want to get fancy…

What features you miss here you expect the rig to provide ?

And for the story, yeah you have different interesting elements but they kinda contradict themselves.
The truck on the overall feels armored / bullet proof / dystopian, it can work very well in a middle of a battle. But the speakers then feels a bit unmotivated, and the flag even more.

Now if we look at the environment, it’s kinda futuristic and generic, like not super futuristic, not super industrial, not dystopian at all but not utopian either,
And while the mountains look very cool, you don’t take advantage of that distant space to add something related to that world, nor in the sky either.
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s cool to have these area less busy, but having other elements there can be cool.
Like if you go to the full dystopian / industrial style, you can have a giant factory, emitting large smoke there.

And finally, I think since at this stage everything is still quite generic, I’d take that opportunity to list your option for the story / mood and such.
Dystopian is easy and kinda safe, but also very common. You might want to turn that in something a bit more original , but the full dystopian stuff is always fun too.

Once you’ll know what kind of universe this is, things will get much easier to add some coherence !
And the “story” will take place by itself .

Have fun !

Thanks for your suggestions. Very helpful.

Cool ! forgot to mention that there is a lot of potential already ! With proper planning at this stage it’s going to be awesome !

What I’d like to do when I reach a point like this is to grab a frame and do some quick and dirty paint over, doing ugly photo bashing with everything cool that I can find.

These I generally don’t share, but it helps a lot to test things and bring ideas without being slowed down by making stuff in 3D.

I’m looking forward to what you’ll do ! Following your progress might be very interesting !

Another Wip.

Well, I was having to many problems with that previous one. Rigacar addon is great when it works and this animation proves it.

I was able to grab a truck from the traffic add-on which has rigacar already applied. And added a mixamo construction worker driving. I added noise modifiers and animated the wheels according to the noise. I used the seperate function in editor to seperate the cab and mirrors so I could add noise to that as well as a secondary animation.
I used the constraint copy location to duplicate the motion form the original car to this one just because I just learned about that feature.

So that’s how I animated this truck.

Hmm, just noticed the window on driver side the transparancy didn’t render, but instead a solid white. Not sure how to fix that. Make a mask in resolve I guess.

oh that’s a good idea thanks. Like place some cars or planes.

I guess you could bring images as a plane and have them track to camera constraint and just place some in the scene.

Thanks.

Interesting , I was thinking more into pure photoshop work to go fast, do quick erase, color grading, paint over…
But yeah that could work too to have everything in 3D !

Nice move with the utility truck ! maybe it’s been chased by something unexpected !

Wip continue.

So Added in an alien with a laser blast thing.

So next is to have some sort of ufo or something chase the truck and explode after the blaster fire.

Fixed the tire and a few things in the truck animation.

I’m not sure I could do this but have the window explode or simply remove the window like it’s rolled down. Well see. That window can’t get it to be transparent using just blender.

With the forbidden Planet UFO Because if your going to include a UFO it has to be the forbidden planet one.

I had created the Forbidden UFO last year. Not entirely accurate because I couldn’t find blue prints.

Well this is the final that i’m going to enter.
Added some sound design also.

My brother is also doing some sound design. See what his ideas are in the next post.
