Endurance: Arctic ship stuck in the everlasting ice

In this Project i tried to portray the dramatic story of the “Endurance” which is a sailing vessel that got stuck in the ice during the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition in 1915.
Rendered with Cycles and some touch ups in DaVinci Resolve.
You can check out the animation and breakdown on my ArtStation:

There’s actually a lot of really good photos of the wreck, if you want more inspiration:

There is also some film footage, Frank Hurley was a photographer on the expedition.

Oh interesting, i have only seen still photos so far

Unfortunately they had to abandon a lot of material when they evacuated and only saved some of the footage.

Anyway I really like your render, well done.

Oh, thats very unfortunate indeed. I would have loved to see more material of this Expedition.
Thanks for the compliment! :grinning:

You’re on the featured row! :+1:

Great scene
Have you used the rig ? I have made it and have always been wondering if that was convenient or not. And I should update it as it is a bit old, but can’t manage to find the time to do it

Hi, thank you!
I actually didnt realise that the ship had a rig. Apart from a cloth simulation in the sails, the ship was static in my animation and i posed some parts manually.
Its a very cool model btw when i found it, i instantly thought it would make a great fit in my scene.

The model is not mine
I was just wondering if that such a rig was convenient, but it seems it wasn’t useful to you anyway
