This addon converts each selected mesh elements (vertex, edges, faces) into entity with direction.

Entity: ‘Camera’, ‘Plane’, ‘Empty’, ‘Light’, ‘Object’, ‘Collection’

Direction can be set according to: ‘Origin’, ‘3D Cursor’, ‘Word Origin’, ‘View’ (inverted and XYZ limitation). And if you need plus random rotation.

If you select ‘Object’ entity, enter the name Object in the field.

Addon will place this Object in all selected mesh elements.

If you select ‘Collection’ entity, enter the name Collection in the field.

Addon will place the Objects from the Collection (in order) at all selected mesh elements.

This addon also sets the direction for selected objects.

Nice. This reminds me of an old add-on for 3ds Max that allowed you to add lamps to the vertices of a mesh, to simulate bounced light.

Yeah that is how we faked GI back then, at least that is how I did it in Lightwave.

It will be also nice if you can add feature to Convert selected (only) faces to object or collection. Please add random z rotation.

Very interesting developments. Are the copies linked by default, or can you choose the copies to be linked or non-linked?

v. 1.4 (04-02-2020):

Added ‘View’ direction.

All resulting objects can be linked or not.

All resulting objects can be selected or not.

Random rotation can now be set in numbers.

I actually forgot that I used to do something similar with lightrigs using dupliverts (well now that is gone) in pre 2.80 I just tried the same idea with instancing and it still holds.

Obviously dupliverts is not a replacement for this addon but if you want to try alternate methods it is there.

As a request, if the Entity is a Collection or an Object, I thought it would be better not to write the name of the existing Object or Collection manually.

It’s easier for users to automatically reference existing collections and objects and include the object names.

Also, it would be great if there is a dropper selection function!

Looks nice, especially that you allow collections to be used and distribute multiple objects over the surface. This is something instancing doesn’t allow (yet?). However instancing allowes to adjust the object size according to the face size. Is this possible with your add-on, too?
