Environment / Level Design - Abandoned Victorian Greenhouse

Bare with me that’s gonna be a long one.

Abandoned Victorian Greenhouse Environment, I created for the 4th Erindale Discord Game Jam.
We teamed up to create game with Unity. - Poly Snatchers is a Noir Murder Mystery Game with Pixelated PS1 Optics.

The result’s for free on itch: https://erindale.itch.io/poly-snatchers
There an OpenGL Build so, you can even play it in the browser.

We collaborated using Plastic SCM/Unity Version Control.
I created a bunch of props for the game, with mainly Blender, Substance and Speedtree.
Designed the level for the Greenhouse/Park-Area and helped with the Level Design around the town.
Also, created a few simple vfx for props, (for which I’ve made GiFs, which are unfortunately to big to upload here)
As well as a simple random-instancer-script for randomly spawning pots and plants to the level.

It was a great experience as always, to work in a small team on such a project. and good learning experience, to dip a toe into Vfx and scripting as well, and handle assets through the whole pipeline.

Greenhouse + Potting bench and Plant table ; modeled and textured in blender - 4758 tris

More on the Props the next post.

Props/Assets created with Blender, a bit of Substance designer, sampler. and Speedtree for the tree’s

  • Foliage:

  • Potted Plants, made with Blender Geometry Nodes

  • Ficus - Textures shoot on a Fuji XT10, from my own potted ficus.

  • Snakeplant/Sansevieria - may take of a quite common houseplant.

  • ‘weeds’ -made with Blender Geometry Nodes

  • Very Low Poly Tree’s and Shrubs made in Speedtree:
1352 to 688 Tris; for the biggest and smallest individuals

  • Felt like i need a bigger hero asset-plant, in the center and made this bonsai with Speedtree. reusing the same textures as the trees

More Props:

Decals
Made with Substance Designer, Sampler and CC0 Stock

Decor to put on Walls (or buildings) to add variation, and make the walls surrounding the greenhouse/park area stand out.

We needed to fill some space, so a classic solution: a maze; which i quickly designed and made these very simplistic hedges for. basically cubes with a tiling texture and a few scattered cards; i quickly captured in the garden and processed with Sampler.

These garden-tools been made in collaboration with Brian, who did a great job modeling these. I took it from there and optimized, unwrapped, textured and added them to the game.

Not to forget dirt-piles, crucial element for the environment, I had in mind.

Jerrycan, which has a simple VFX Explosion for it.
Did a bit of Vfx work on this Jam, like this simple Coffee Steam
