Erector Set Three Wheeler

Here is a Yafray rendering of an Erector set that I modeled for the Jan/Feb Indigo render competition. I am still tweaking the Indigo render, but liked the progress of the Yafray one.

I am planning on adding a little noise to the metal since it is overly reflective. The real one has a lot of little scratches on it.

look excellent! I love it! Nice lighting.

yaa looks goooood  … the wheel kind of gives away the fact dat its not real … dats the only crit i cld find

What specifically about the wheel?

im not sure of dis … but im tinkin dat wheel is plastic rite ? … shldnt it b a little more shiny … im not an expert on materials … so dats just my opinion

Yes. I agree it needs to be a tiny bit more shiny, but the actual plastic is not that shiny on the actual toy.
I’ll repost when I bump it up a bit.

Here is a new render. I noticed that the wheels not only were not as shiny as they should have been, but they were not as orange as they should have been either.

Thanks for the help.

Looks very good.
Any chance of a wallpaper?

What size?

Also, would you like the model offset to the left or right to make room for icons?

that would be sweet!

if I had to pick on anything I would suggest maybe bumping the specularity up on the rubber part of the wheels little, or some light scratches and crevices to make it look more like rubber. but other than that it looks great.

I don’t have any icons on my desktop, so no worries there.
My current resolution is 1024 x 768, but it would be nice if you could go higher, as I’ll be getting a new computer for college. 1280 x 1024?

I’m going to add some fixes to the rubber. When I rendered it in Low GI settings, the rubber looked more realistic. When I rendered it on Best quality, it smoothed out too much.
Once that is fixed, I’ll post a 1280 x 1028 render. Should be a day or two.

Good to hear. Thanks a lot!

thats a very cool concept you’ve got there

Here’s a WIP of the Indigo render of the same model.

the wheels look much better in the indigo render.

you ruins it!!!

What exactly do you mean?

indigorender looks more realistic but has more grain pixels (obvious). A question: Is the parts who holding the wheels supposed to be unsmooth?

No. In the version of Indigo that I used, it doesn’t recognize Blenders Autosmooth feature. I therefore have to go and tag each face as whether to be smooth or solid. Not hard, but I was going to do that tonight. I did some tests today at lunch and looked like it would work.
