Do you know if it’s possible to have an object explode in a particular place and animate it? For instance, with that sphere, could you make it start exploding on the top, then travel down the left side?
Search for the Demolition.py script here on blenderartist. It has a setting to add thickness to the exploded object. It is different from the explode modifier in the particles panel, but does much the same thing.
