Exporting PLY with colors

Hello.

I have looked on the forums but have either been unable to find any posts that seem to solve the problem or they don’t exist. Specifically, I am completely unable to export a simple colored cube as a PLY file with color.

I do the following:

  1. Open Blender,
  2. Give the default cube a color (blue or whatever),
  3. Go to export -> PLY

I then open the PLY in Meshlab and see no color. I open the PLY as a text file and see no color information associated with either any faces nor vertices. So…I’m doing something wrong.

(By the way, I do have the “Vertex Colors” checkbox checked when exporting the PLY)

But does your object have any vertex colours ?

I don’t know, but I’m assuming the answer is no given that I only colored (specifically) the face of a cube. I will try seeing if I can figure out how to color the vertices (I’m a real noob as you can probably already tell).
