Extrude vertices to edge? then merge?

Nodes = vertices
Beams = Edges
I was somehow able to extrude a bunch of nodes at one time and then merge them with beams so that say there are 2 nodes connected by a beam, and I extrude a node in there it divided that single beam into 2 beams.

The issue right now that i’m having is that that is not happening so my chassis sags instead of being supported in the middle, kinda hard to explain :confused:
