F-84

Hi all.

Well at least i can say now i have posted something in the finished projects section. Its model of a jet i have been working on for a little over a month. I started to work on it again couple days ago where i was going to add a spec map along with a new colour map i did but it didn’t look good and could not get it looknig any better then what i already had posted last in the wip section. http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=173558&highlight=bump+map
Really don’t feel like doing another color map (4th one) at this moment. I could spend more time on it, obviously no background but i really want to start another aircraft and becasue i really had great help and learned alot and mistakes i have made i already sort of can’t undo.

Sorry if you have already seen this render.

A really huge thanks for all who helped with the WIP.

Kevjon especially. Hope we can talk more in the future.

UPDATE: Hi all. Re-did a color map but i think my spec map is wrong and also i think i should be a alot more subtle with textures in the future. Something is still wrong, lighting, materials, i don’t know but im sure i will keep learning new things as i do more ‘projects’ in the future.

Looks amazing. Some more dirty and scratched texture maybe. F 84 comes from 50s. Nice render too, what renderer? IR?

Nice model and textures, I would pump up your blacks for more drama.

Hat’s off to you! I read through your WIP thread and I must say that I’m impressed with your stick-to-it-ativity. Not only is this a great model for a first, but it’s great all around! Congratulations on finishing it!

Wow, that is excellent! You make me want to start a plane now.

I can’t wait to see what you do next!

michalis–yafaray, according to the WIP.

very nice work.

Very nice and clean, even with the render noise. Nice textures, nice materials, everything is nice except for the sky which could use a little something to make it more realistic, a hint of cloud structure would be…nice.

The model is quite nice and maybe could do with a little more detail in some areas. Having looked at your WIP, the colour map you posted there was excellent and it showed a fantastic amount of detail. However, I’m not seeing that detail translated into the final render, the scratches, colour and tonal variation are not showing. I haven’t seen your bump and spec maps and I would presume they are equally as good, so that would suggest that there are probably some issues with your material and render settings.

I don’t know what renderer you used, personally I would recommend Luxrender or Indigo for this type of scene. Whatever renderer you use it would be worthwhile getting it to display all of that hard work you have put into the texturing, it would improve the final render by a large margin.

One other thing is that the plane is in mid air without a pilot, it would be a lot more complete if there was someone sitting in there. I’m making an airfix thunderbolt at the moment, I was thinking about doin a model in blender when I’m finished looking at your F-84 makes me wanna go ahead and start it.

I like the attention to detail on the model. If the surface wasn’t so perfect it would look more realistic. Since it’s up in the air with the landing gear down I’m guessing this is either a test render or a detail render. If I’m corect, then the USAF logos on the bottum of the wings are upside down. All in all I’d say you did a good job.

And of course there is a small model problem with gears. Not gears but the place on winds, something is wrong.

Everyone is so nice, informative and encouraging its like a little online family
Thanks all for the comments and also the crits, will try to improve with an update. If admin don’t mind?

@seanser: I wished i had now gone that one extra step which should of included that diffuse and spec map. Your right, i did spend quite a bit of time creating those and not to include them in the final does seem a little pointless but that was the part i had trouble looking good. Ill check the material and render settings as you say, and post an update to this thread in few days time?

michalis: Hi, i did have a dirt layer with scratches etc but as above, had trouble making it render nicley. It just looked to ‘over the top’ with what i had. I’ll try again though. That last comment you made could you point out where exactly becasue im seeing quite a few possible places:) thnx.

NOOBIE: How did you adjust the black level? Would like to try it to the full size render and see what it looks like. Thnx

FDameronUT: Yep about the upside decals that was another thing i had fixed with the latest color map which i didn’t include in the above render :frowning:

So all the comments, crits and suggestions are great but i have concluded now i posted this a little too early and thank you all.

Hi all.

I posted three more pictures in the first post.

Sorry double posted.

GREAT job SG! Yes, there may be some things that aren’t “quite right”, but all in all, still a very nicely done first aircraft. I am still plugging along on my Me262. Decided to re-do the fuselage, so that has set me back a bit. I really need to finish it! Again, GREAT job!

Can you give us a hint as to what aircraft you will be doing next?

Longaly

I would say that there is quite a big improvement especially with the last render. Looks great overall, I agree that the textures could be slightly more subtle but it’s a very minor thing.

The only thing for me that would now bring the render to yet another level is the context of the aeroplane in the image, as it is I would prefer to see it presented sitting on the ground, maybe using a tarmac texture and a hangar in the background. If you want to show the aeroplane in flight, I would lift the landing gears, have a particle effect coming from the afterburner and put in a nice motion blur effect. There are a lot of tutorials covering these subjects on the net and with the extra little touch I would call it a first rate, five star image.

Great improved textures! A hangar in the background is a good idea.

Thnx Longaly. You really had a good start on your plane and the cockpit was looking perfect. So your redoing parts of it?! I know how that feels  As long as your still working on it is all that matters. Did you ever get that ‘shadows through glass’ problem fixed? My next aircraft? Have been looking at blueprints for about a week now. All i know for certain is that ITS NOT GOING TO HAVE THE LANDING GEAR DOWN! Thats for sure and im making sure whatever blueprint i do use that it will have seperate cross sections included.

seanser: Thnx again. That is a good idea about the hangar. I will try that.

michalis: You really think so? Yeah, im already looking for hangar reference photos

StarlightGirl80,

Yes, I started over on the fuselage. I wasn’t happy with the gun port topology at all, and with all of the messing around trying to fix that, the fuse just got out of whack.

The glass is looking better, but I still need to tweek it some. Speaking of glass, does your glass have any thickness to it or is it just a plane? Mine has no thickness.

Time is at a premium for me lately, but I am still Blending when I can get the chance! Maybe by the time you have finished your 10th aircraft or so, I may have the 262 done!

Nice touch with the dirt and all. Glad I’m not the one who has to clean it.

I think your textures have too much contrast. But the material should be a lighter color, it almost looks like it’s made out of stone as opposed to a lightweight metal like aluminum. Try lowering that contrast and see if you like it.
