´´F´´

I just wanted to know if it is always necessary to hit the ´´F´´ function to save the datablock even if it has no user in Material and IPOs. If it is a standard procedure I´ll start to implement it, cause lately I´ve been losing some materials and IPOs unexpectedly…

That’s exactly what F(ixed?) does. It makes the datablock stay even when it has no referents. If you see an O next to a name in the list, that means it has zero and isn’t F’ed, so it will ‘not be saved’ and you won’t see it after your next save-load cycle.

Exactly. Any material/really anything I would assume, that isn’t assigned to something will be erased from the file during your next save/load. Could you imagine if it didn’t? I will normally go thru about 10-15 different materials for each object before I decide on the best one…imagine the size of the file if it saved every material I didn’t use…especially if its already a big scene by itself…wow.
