I sculpted a lowpoly version of this little guy for an illustration I’m working on, but I liked it so much I couldn’t resist — had to create a highpoly version too.
All made in Blender, using sculpting and procedural textures.

Damn, cool model! It looks just the right kind of nasty with all the cavities. I have nothing to add in regards to the model.
If you want to take it a bit further and if it fits your end result i.e. the illustration i think you can give it some more love.
It gets this kind of waxy feel to it. Almost uncanny in some sense.
Have you added SSS to the material? The micro-detail and the large details are good. But it does not have a lot of “mid size detail” for lack of better words.
It has a very uniform look in the micro detail, which i think in turn makes it look more waxy.
If you look at something like the facehugger from Romulus:
It has a lot of details in the transitioning parts to the legs and to the sacks. Also looking at it now, it has a lot more large variety of colors in the texture.
But i know you did not ask for this. But i just wanted to chip in as the model could really hold up to the films.
I also know that something like this adds double the time to the project.
otally agree—awesome work! The cavities add great character. Maybe a bit more mid-scale detail could help break up the waxy feel. Some subtle texture variation or tweaking the SSS could push it even further!
Thanks a lot for the feedback @JesperBylov @Iltaja_Mehdi ! I totally agree, the textures could use a bit more love, and even the model itself deserves some asymmetry and maybe a pass through Substance Painter. I originally made it for an NPR-style illustration (which I should be posting here later today), so it doesn’t even have proper UVs yet.
Here’s a screenshot of the material, pretty simple overall:
And this is how I plan to use it in the final piece:
The texture gave me that collectible vibe, almost like it could sit on a shelf next to some prized figurines. ![]()
Anyway, I’m definitely considering revisiting the model with your suggestions in mind, maybe even giving it a few pose variations!
For an NPR project, it looks great! Can’t wait to see the final result of the full illustration.
As I mentioned, I knew that it would add a lot of time to the project. I just wanted to share what came to mind when I first saw it. But I totally get that the vision might be something completely different from what I assumed.
I figured from the renderings that it might be aiming for something else, but maybe you just wanted to experiment with a different approach?
Either way, it’s cool to see that direction!
Now you have another perspective on it, so feel free to take or leave it as you see fit. It is your project after all. Enjoy it. It is a well done!
I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
Thank you Bart.
