Hey guys, this started off as a cloud texture displacement and I eventually got to this result. Perhaps there should be more motion blur with the falling rocks? Anyway, comments welcome.
(I actually got the scene to render under 100,000 vertices :))
The surface is much too low poly (or you don’t have edge split on) and it ruins the image. Make it less regular, and do some proportional editing with “Random” on. That will get some better results imho.
Also, the sky takes too much attention away from the falling rocks (which are really too blured) because it is busy. Make it less dark, and less busy. It is a common mistake making scenes too dark, check the RGB curves of the image, and you should have a nice peak, going down slowly at first, then getting steaper. The peak should start all the way at the top.
