Fanart: Dragonball (not Z) , Kid Goku and Kid Krillin in the classic dragonball world

Did this a while ago and forgot about it . Cleaning my harddrive right now and found it again.
The final Image is rendered in Eevee.

i created the basemeshes for this pic with the online tool https://monstermash.zone/

and then sculpted and modelled on top of that.

first well make a sketch of course

then i used monstermash to draw all the objects one by one , export to obj and put them in blender.

this is the monstermash interface, this is better than ai generators imho XD , you can draw stuff and it spits out an obj

you have to split your model into several parts though as the algorythm of monster mash only creates very simple geometry and drawing everything at once doesnt really work unless its a simple fish.

small details like the fingers and have to be made in blender though , monstermash cannot provide that level of detail

its a very good tool to create organic shapes, these background mountains took me a minute to draw and export and they all look individually modelled, no repeating geometry and instances like 3d often has.

the tool seemed perfect for this project as the handdrawn aspect is retained really nicely , it looks way less clean than 3d modeled stuff. (Or you have to go the extra mile from 3d modelling and put in all those details later and kinda simulate the loose and clay-y look )

coupled with blenders sculpting tools this was fun and easy to create.

i recorded the whole process but didnt come around to create a video yet , becasue i dont even have enough nice free songs for a 10 minute video lol

overall i think i needed about 8 hours to finish this.

That’s really nice!

I played with Monster Mash a few months ago, and yeah, it can’t handle anything very complicated, so one needs to think further ahead. Also, I was really new to Blender and didn’t have a clue how to make anything out of the hideous topology it created. I should give it another try when I get more into sculpting; it’s certainly very fast and easy to create base meshes even when one can’t sketch as well as you.

thanx friend,
yes the geometry has really bad topology but in many cases i just left it that way and didnt even remesh.
as you can see there were no rendering errors. for background and static objects with simple materials its totally ok imo.

if you trace an already nice form from your sketch helps of course , then you dont have to do that much in blender.

i could imagine , many of the organic small props for those typical orthographic rooms could be made in no time with mostermash. like pokemon stuffed animals on the bed or whatever.

Yeah, I am definitely going to give that a try for props.

Thanks for giving such a good presentation of something I had disregarded!

i think it can be subsituted with a script right inside blender… greasepencil to mesh , thickness, subdiv (or similar)
