Feedback on poly count for low poly stylized boat

Hi everyone, I’d like to ask about a stylized low poly animation project featuring a traditional boat. My boat model is around 5k triangles after optimization. Does this seem reasonable for a low poly style or should i optimize further? Any feedback appreciated!

Welcome!

That is more than reasonable as a polygon count for something this large, it could run in a game engine multiple generations back without problem.

Ah nice, thanks for confirming!

Hello ! That look good however you’re kinda mixing two notions here !
Low poly for game optimization and low poly as an art style.

If it’s about optimization, then the goal is to make the model look as detailed as possible but to a restricted poly count so it will work in a game engine with probably a lot of other models. It’s purely technical then and it depends on what engine you’re using, how many assets and so on…

Now if it’s about art style, it’s not really about poly count, but rather your ability to express shapes with a very limited amount of polygons. Now it’s hard to judge with wireframe, the model looks good, but it might be too detailed yet to really become something interesting in terms of style; but anyway there are no rules, it really goes down to what you like, and the overall look of other elements …

To me this really look like lowpoly style :

This is still lowpoly but it’s starting to loose the aesthetic :

And obviously this might be technically lowpoly ( hard to tell) but this is definitly not in the style :

Anyway, probably not that important but style/ aesthetic is completely unrelated from polycount which is a notion for optimizaton !
