Female Anime Character Base

Hello everyone, I was looking to get some feed on a current model that i’m working on. I followed a couple of tutorials from youtube.

Hi. I noticed the question form you earlier post. Well, cant argue that your topology isn’t good. Only thing can be the nose and the boobies, but depends on what character your goal is and how you want to use it for what purpose. Eyebrows, eyelashes, ears (hardest part) and afcourse the hair make a huge difference. You can study “maid san” which can be downloaded from blendswap. That char is realy well made.

Besides there are virtual no good youtube vids which help you make a cool anime figure, so I am surprised you found one. I personally still use photo’s and such I get from the internet and referencemodel my char after it. I have to yet understand how to create cool poly hair, real hair can give a very cool result but tends to make your model more realistic and less anime (more like final fantasy figures).

Am interested in where you will get with this model. It always is a process from making mistakes and improving on them. Only hope you dont give up because the people who make an anime char are few and the people who use them in a short anime are even fewer.

If you seek for inspiration just follow the Google+ community ‘3D Anime’. I post as much as I can find on the subject and am not the only one on this.

Getting the nose and breast are a bit hard at this stage because its the first that I’m tackling the female body. I haven’t gotten to the hair part yet but i know its going to carry quite a sting. I’ll definitely check out the Google+ community '3D Anime.

i agree that your topology looks pretty spot on. one thing i would do is try to shape the vertices into the shape of the muscles of the stomach, ribs, clavicle ect. its pretty amazing how much better models can look after you apply that idea. i have tried to make 3d anime many times, and its HARD! the Japanese have some kind of secret technique XD

I applied a fix to those problem areas that y’all recommended. I’m still trying to figure a nice flow for the neck/clavicle and the back area.

YES! nice, thats perfect. i would work on the collar bone a bit though

how’s this? I tried looping it around the neck area. But there is something with the back that I can’t really put my finger on, its throwing me off that I can’t really get the topology more clean.

this is really nice like where its going though idont see why u made the depression below the ribcage its supposed to be very slight especially for anime characters

The topo is looking really good on this. I think what you might be seeing “wrong” with the back will become more apparent when you work down into the hips and legs. I couldn’t put my finger on it at this point either. Once you see the figure as a whole though it can help quite a bit.

I decided to take the rib detail out completely, and made the details around the neck + clavicle to make it work better. Along with a nice loop around the arms for animation. I need to better define the scapula and think the torso will be complete.

her boobs look better now you have made the tip all quads, they were looking a bit pointy before. great modelling so far

i think the rib cage looked better, it was a bit pronounced, but some kind of ribs would be good

Nice to see how this evolved.
I should have posted my own attempt of a figure earlier to make use of coments here.
I can see your topology is quite good, compared to mine, and more evenly distributed.

I duplicated my previous mesh and did a dyno-topo to get those hard to model areas like the shoulder and clavicle along with the back. I added alittle rib indication kimihiro111 :D. Now on to doing another retopo to have a even better flowing torso.

this is noce modelling, but i can’t help feeling that your heading away from anime and going more realistic with the model. not that there is anything wrong in that, go for it. i’d like to see where you’re taking the project

I finally got around to making more changes on the anime body. I was probably going alittle to detail on the earlier renders of the body but I decided to keep things abit smooth. Could someone help me out with getting the correct topology for the hip area to make it animation ready?

Lol, as i stated earlier, depends on what your goal is. Besides there will be clothing on top. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, I make a lot and learn from them.

If you need reference material for anime I have a got a few, picked these ones up this morning - a new anime to be aired- Sekaiseifuku http://www.sekaiseifuku-zzz.com/chara/ch07a.html. Hips are a bit non -existent here.
http://www.sekaiseifuku-zzz.com/chara/ch10.html more hips
http://www.sekaiseifuku-zzz.com/chara/ch03a.html almost nude

I use this tutorial - http://www.3dm3.com/tutorials/female_body/index.php - as a guide for drawing the female body, but I also use the above mentioned reference picks (well others) for drawing anime chars. The pics are a great way as reference material (or just copy it like in a car tutorial). It still stays your char and you are the artist so you can do with your char what you want. Besides most important part will be eyes, hair and clothing which give your character appeal towards the viewer.

Thanks again warloc3d for snapping me back to earth, yea i gotta stop being afraid to make mistakes which will help me become better. I’m still having troubles with trying to get the right anime head shape, i even used the main_san.blend as a reference but it some how goes right over my head. I did make changes to the body, a more simple structure sense as you said the character will have clothing on.

Back at it again on this journey to have a decent modeled anime face, I’ve changed the flow once again sense the one above was way off. Hopefully I’m going in the right direction now and what are somethings I can add or subtract?

yup, looks nice
