I’m pretty new to Blender (about a month) and fairly new to 3d. To get my bearings I’ve been working on modeling a couple cars. I think I’ve made about 50 attempts. I finally seem to have decided on a process and am sticking to it. Here is my progress so far.
(wire frame)
(shaded render)
Any input or crits are welcomed. Could I simplify this considerably? Obviously there are some rough patches (ie the rubber around the windows). The wheels and tires are off of a vw.blender file I found online. (not intended for the final render)
Anyone know a good method for making headlights? Tutorials?
Thanks for checking it out.

This car is way too expensive for what it’s worth… get a new civic or even an accord. Plus, if you buy a car like this (Mini-cooper, that tiny Mercedez I forgot the name, etc), you’ll be stuck with it for the rest of your natural life - or you’ll end up selling it to an used car salesman for a ridiculous price. /rant off
@fabittar that was hillarious. @spacetug thanks! @ampace I’ve seen that site before, I think that guy gives my favorite video tutorials. I’m stoked they are modeling a car. Thanks for posting that
Knocked out the rear bumper this morning…
whoever decided to model lights in between car panels goes on my least favorite list.
Just found out how to take advantage of the smooth button… saves lots of vertex manipulating time.
(Rear Bumper)
Rendered wire frame separate from materials and then overlayed wireframe in photoshop. (is photoshop a bad word in the open source world?)
And of course since I have to do my laundry, clean my apt. shave, shower, walk my dog, get a life, I couldn’t help but get the rear hatch started instead.
Still Missing quite a few details. The headlights have to be the most complicated headlights ever made on a car. But, I thought I’d just have a little fun jazzing up the render and show it off.
@meatlover Thanks for the input. I don’t know if you noticed, but in my initial post I mentioned I just snagged these wheels off of a vw file I found, they are in no way intended for the final render
