Hey everyone! A few weeks ago I posted about my struggles making realistic space scenes: Question on how to effectively convey scale in space and I got a TON of great feedback. After more iterations, here’s the final test of my space shot setup for my short film. (I threw in a star wars model because I’m reworking the design of my ship for the film at the moment)
You can see the the shuttle is much closer to camera. It’s something Star Wars does all the time, and it works. (Think back to that opening shot of SW in 77 - it broke cinema)
@Magnavis yes–that’s exactly right! In the previous post I linked it was suggested that I use a Star Wars/similar sci-fi movie scene as a reference–that’s the one I chose.
That’s a great point about the camera proximity; rewatching the scene, its not just the dwindling point but also how close the shuttle is to the camera initially that sells the scale. Definitely something I can incorporate!
I love your spaceship and the planetary render art, i don’t know what you had in mind for the atmosphere, it’s extended way too tall in altitude, but that’s just my taste, if that’s your intention for a planet with different composition, good job.
