This may be old news, but I just discovered this AddOn for Firefox that makes 3D OBJ files out of webpages. It does all the UV mapping for you and provides a PNG file of the page for texturing.
Wow, that looks pretty cool. It might come in handy sometime in the future, thanks for the information. 
Also, I found this link that will convert an image into a web page directly. Then you can Tilt the image and export it as 3D. The page seems to mosaic the image, then average the luminosity of each cell. Then it takes that brightness information and that becomes a DIV tag for the HTML with height information.
