I’ve been lurking on this forum for a while and am in awe of all the amazing work displayed here. The past couple of weekends I’ve been working on a short film to send to a few friends on new year’s. It’s the first time I’ve used Blender for anything and I was really surprised how well it suited my workflow even though I am not doing any 3d modelling, and have just used it for basic compositing and sequencing of hand-drawn (as in pen and paper) animations that I scanned.
Really looking forward to my next project now, haven’t decided if it’s going to be another animated short or a small game though. Pretty certain I will use Blender in some way though.
Cool! You say pen and paper, just curious about your workflow. Did you scan each page? Did you do this in a paint program and a tablet or something? Great animation. Sure is a welcome break from photorealistic 3D.
Regarding the workflow: I drew the characters separately on animation paper and then scanned them. I then had to line up the scans in Gimp because of small variations in where the holes had been punched in the animation paper, which was a bit of a pain. I imported as image planes in Gimp and put the scenes together. Then I rendered each scene separately and put them all in Blender’s Video Sequence Editor where I also added the sound. In my next project I’ll probably use a camera instead of a scanner which will save me a lot of a time.
