Hi all. I’m a new member, but I’ve been lurking about since I downloaded Blender about a month ago. Long story short, I “stumbled upon” Sintel… couldn’t believe it was made with free program. Decided that I had to try! And I’m glad I did, I’m having a lot of fun. I’m a photographer, so when I get a lot better, I plan on doing a lot of compositing and fun things mixing the two. But I also want to use it to create animations as well. I have been fooling around with stop motion for the longest time, so it’ll be fun when I get to that as well. But right now… I just need to get the modeling down.
Here is my first model, it’s a little Alien and I plan on doing a really short Short with him. He’s not textured yet… I need to learn how to do that (so any tips or tutorials you guys know, would really help). I just applied a green material and messed around with the ramp, the texture probably won’t be the same at all. Tell me what you think please! I feel like his legs are a bit square and I can’t figure out how to fix it… His mouth is weird (pinched?). Um, I’m not sure in my topology is right at all. I’m not even really sure what right topology is… something about keeping as many right angles as possible? Just anything that you guys see I should probably fix, or know… Thank you!!
that’s pretty good modeling for a first try. The topology could be improved tho, Johnny blender has some great tutorials on youtube that can help with that. As for the texturing, here’s a link to part 13 of the Johnny blender tutorials on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5_2seDBQrw&feature=channel
daniel.waters- I’m really glad you like him! I was kind of afraid that I just liked him cause I created him, and I will. I have a whole scene planned for the little guy. I just “finished” him, and got excited and wanted to show everyone!
ristesekuloski- Thank you! I’m pretty proud of him. I’m actually moving clear across the U.S. at the moment, so I might disappear for a bit, since I don’t know when I’ll have internet. But, I’ll keep posting everything I create for and, do to, him in this thread.
DivineRAiN- Thanks, and yea… topology. I knew that when I was making him he looked a bit messy, weird parts, and I tried to fix it… I guess it will get better with practice, and when I have better control over the tools. And thank you so much for the tutorial! It’ll help a lot. I’ll also go back and watch the beginning, to try and fix his topology.
