Yes, there must be a reason for it’s price. However the problem I find with many packages is that you need very good skills to produce better results then what you can get with free ones. This is why I wouldn’t consider buying most of them. (If I could I’d definietly get zBrush tho, )

Ok I am just getting to grips with Maxwell so please forgive my poor quality renders I’ve already posted. I will get better.
New renders from this weekend. These are made with Blender, exported to 3DSMax as DXFs, for texturing and then rendered externally in Maxwell.
Another glass test with 2 colour variations made with colour correction in PS7. The image direct from Maxwell was very light blue, auto colour pulled out the red.
As I’ve never got round to making the obligatory LOTR Ring, here it is.
Sonix.
Cool, those glass thingie are really cool. The ring is good as well, but it misses something, maybe specularity, or I don’t know what. The One ring was always shiny and looked as if it was brand new and never shown any sign of age, but I know it’s for testing, still for that it doesn’t show that much. The glass thingies make up for that tho
Cheers mate. I modeled the Ring from memory and forgot that it doesn’t tarnish. I had been reducing the reflectance on the gold, but will do a shinier one this week.
Trying to remove the pixelation in the wood texture and although it’s not evident in this render, I have now solved it. The texture is 3000x1600, but due to the zoom level I have on the camera, the texture is pixelating.
I’ll post another tomorrow.
Tim.
The DOF seems off in the ring pic.
The background turns out fine and slightly grainy the way DOF should be.
but the chain seems unreal because the ring is sharp and therefore the chain should also be sharp considering the fact that they share the same distance.
Would like a good DOF renderer for blender though.
I have Max but I haven’t installed it (don’t ask me where I got it)
but maybe I could use the internal renderer for DOF.
Yafray sucks at DOF.

What happened to the SonicSculpt logo?

The first ring pic, DOF was added with Photoshop, in the second DOF was rendered by Maxwell.
The Maxwell camera target distance is a factor in DOF. In the second ring pic, the DOF is present as a band across the whole image, as the target was set to the ring inscription. Hence the DOF band runs left to right at this point. The chain is closer to the camera than the inscription, hence it being out of focus.
The scanline render in Max is okay for DOF, but it needs to render in passes. Maxwell creates DOF in one go, by approximating random positions of the mesh at render time.
Which one mate?
This one? http://www.free-webspace.biz/sonix/index2.html
Keep forgetting to add it, as I need to sign my Maxwell renders as Tim Ellis, for the Maxwell forums. %|
