First model...

Hi, I’m new here…

I have been working with blender for awhile now… and I prefer it above all!.

I’m busy with a “human” head… or some being… I started sculpting it out of a UV Sphere… and i got to the ears… hehe… I need some help, I watched a few Videos, and gone through some Tuts…

What I’m asking for is there a way to start with it… or some guide lines for sculpting ears…??

PS. Here is an image of the “Human Head thing” don’t laugh :stuck_out_tongue:

And yes Its still very basic… i wanted to finish up all the parts first before adding detail and making everything look nice…

Also I wasn’t entirely sure where to post…? please help my to correct.

Thanks
Martin

hmmm… well i usually just pull a section out using the grab tool and then sculpt detail from there… having said that, i don’t usually do this in blender, but in sculptris. if you’re sculpting in blender, i would highly recommend making a basemesh first as the multires isn’t very dynamic…

Looking pretty good. The front view could use a little more work, but the side view looks great (especially for a first model). I’ve found it’s helpful to add the eyes in at the beginning, just to give a reference for the eye sockets.

One other thing. It appears that you’re using 2.49, which will soon become obsolete, if it hasn’t already. I began blending just as the transition was starting, and while I do know it’s hard to switch from 2.49 to 2.5x, it’s well worth it in the long run, and it’s probably a lot easier to learn the basics in 2.5

Actually I would recommend using the retopo tool, which, btw, works far better in 2.49 than in 2.5. The retopo tool is a way of constructing a new mesh, on top of an old mesh. Like using a hat form.

Ah thanks for the Comments!..

Yes I’m using 2.49b reason is we are working on a project together with python-ogre… I’ll switch to latest blender soon…

But this model was just for randomness and it was the first in its kind… :stuck_out_tongue: but anyway thanks for the tips and comments.

its a pretty good start for beeing your first…

however it does suffer from the common issues that all modeling beginners (who are not expoerienced in traditional art) get wrong.
the eyes should be pretty much at the center of an imaginary vertical line going from the chin to the top of the head in front view.
the forehead is receding a bit to much, together with the eyes beeing to high up in the skull this causes neanderthalitis.
the cheekbones are too large and way to pronounced.
the chin is too pointy.
the nose looks like a triangle in front view. the bridge should be much wider.

between the two eyes, there should be enough space for a third eye. to get the eyelids right its best to use spheres as eyes.

create a new UV-sphere
hit alt+g to center it in object mode
enter edit mode, select all vertices
move and scale them so they fit in either the left or right eye socket
exit edit mode
apply mirror modifier…
this will ensure that the eyes are not modified when sculpting the eyelids in the head mesh

i hope these help.

keep it up, it looks promising. i hope to see an update.

Here is some new renders… of the same model… i tried some stuff on it… looks different but still much work to be done…

much better! your model has improved quite a bit.
the thing that sticks out the most is that the top of the head is too flat, especially in front view

  • yea i noticed hehe… I took to wrong render images… I fixed it… but anyway… Thanks a lot

I think this is a great first model, but i suggest switching over to Blender 2.5x, because the sculpting has improved since Blender 2.49.
