Did you say, “first?!” 
This is a very intriguing render which calls to mind some techniques that have been used very successfully by (2D …) print artists. As you regard the whole image, you get a definite sense of “3D depth” but other elements such as the dots – particularly in the lower foreground – seem almost to call that into question. (In, to my eye, a very artistically pleasing way.) A very satisfying piece of commercial art.
