First Sword Model - Work in Progress

I’m going to be making a sword, and I think I finished the hilt of it. I just need to make the blade and the upper part of the hilt. And maybe get the texture and material to the sword as well.

Here is the reference I use:

If there’s anyone who can point me to the right way to create this sword, I’d be very appreciated. It’s for my fantasy short film, and I’m going to make it either low-poly or high-poly. Depends on my progression with it.

This is what I got so far. I’ll continue with it until its completion with its materials.

Okay, it look great so far!! Just continue modeling, then let’s add a texture. If you need a texture, here are some:

I did a much better hilt (check my other thread about modeling the sword). I’m almost done with it, I’ll finish the sword tomorrow.

Thanks for the image, I’ll see if I can get some texturing done tomorrow as well.

It’s one of the last assets seen in the film I’m making, and I’m pretty happy how it’s turning out so far, even for a beginner like me.

Great to hear that!

I’m in the middle of modeling this sword’s hilt. I like this one better than the other two attempts of making the sword seen in the film.

I used a Cylinder to model the bottom hilt, and then a plane to the outstretch area of it. So far, I’m liking how this one is turning out than the other hilts I made yesterday.

What do you guys think? (Note: the sword reference is from a book called “Brisingr”. The sword is named after the word “Fire”. However, I’m changing the sword’s name in the script, to make it differently sounded in the finished film.)

I’ll save it, and then finish it later when I get back on the computer. I’ll take a small break for now.

I finished the hilt of my sword! Now I only need the blade end of it (I’m not going for the upper stretches of the hilt; it doesn’t need to be identical, right?

I used two planes for the outstretched areas of the hilt, which was pretty easy to extrude with a Wireframe.

The model is almost done, and then I’ll find a better texture than what the reference has. Maybe I’ll use the texture you have given me, @Aj8841. It does look a bit awesome (with the textures), and if I find a name for the sword, it’ll have to be “Bluedeath” in the finished film.

What do you all think of my first sword’s hilt? Have I gotten it correctly? Constructive feedback is welcome, of course.

Look’s great!, I’m not sure if you have noticed this, but the hilt is angled slightly, but it’s not like anyone else is going to notices that.

I noticed. I need to reposition it to 0, don’t I?

Yes, you should probably do that, but leaving it won’t mess up the film your planning to make.

Is this the better position of the sword?

Also, I’ve got the sword’s blade material done with its light and dark shades of blue. Now I need to get the guard colored. And to that, I need the steel white texture. Do I need its HEX color code to do that?

Ok, the hilt looks better, if you want a steel like texture, just use the glossy texture, or turn off nodes and increase the metallic value.

Okay, I finished the texture material. Now I need to go into the Shading tab to get that steel like texture, right? Can you show me the node tree to get the shading for steel, please? It’ll be a big help if you did that.

Here is an example, If you look at the very simple node set-up under the principled shader, you will see a metallic

value.

Such as this? I want it to feel a bit more lively than this. I’d like for it to have a small bit of rust on its shape, to make it look old and that it had aged through many years. How will I be able to achieve that?

That is one my my fears, trying to get rust, I do not know, and I am still trying to figure that one out. My guess is to get a rust texture, then texture paint it on.

Maybe metallic is good for now. I’ll just watch a tutorial on getting rust on the sword later on in my film’s production when I get to 3D modeling after pre-production is finished.

Thanks for the help, though. I needed it to have a metallic shape, and when I do get rust on it, I’ll be happier with its look in the future.

I’ll be sure to post a render of the finished shape of the sword in my film topic once that happens.
