Fluid Bake & apply removes animation

first of all im sorry if this post ends up in a place where its not suppose to be, however i am following a fluid tutorial by http://www.blenderguru.com/videos/create-a-realistic-water-simulation, baked the fluid, animation & everything is good. when I hit apply in modifier panel, no animation & only a still of the keyframe left on which apply is HIT. kindly suggest what can we do to apply the animation and still have all the keyframes animated as before the APPLY. Now to mention the reason i need to apply is so that i can go into edit mode and delete the splashes i dont want in the animation, as mentioned in the tutorial

If you apply the fluid modifier then the fluid simulation is now gone and you’re left with the fluid frozen on that frame as a mesh you can edit.

You cannot have both a fluid simulation and an editable mesh.

Now to mention the reason i need to apply is so that i can go into edit mode and delete the splashes i dont want in the animation, as mentioned in the tutorial
And the tutorial is creating a still image so it is ok to do so in that case.

I have seen some posts about people using a boolean modifier on top of a fluid mesh. This may allow you to crop some parts but is quite heavy on the system.
