Hello guys, I have not been here for a little while and I wanted to show you what I did as skins for the free Alwact clock analog desktop clock program.
I used several programs for this including 3DS Max 2014, Blender 2.69, Google Sketchup with the Kerkythea 2008 Echo renderer, Illustrator CS4, CorelDraw X3 and Phtoshop CS4 and a few others to a much smaller degree. I used the Max standard renderer and in Blender the old renderer mostly and the Cycles renderer in a couple of occasions. The one I used the most of the 3D programs was Blender cause is the one at the moment that I have the most experience with (old trusty Blender). So that is why I thought of posting this cause it is sort of a general curiosity thing that may interest some of the other forums members.
Many of these skins have Sci-Fi themes and other themes that could interest many people here. So here it is.
I created many skins for the Alwact clock program which is a free program created by somebody called Firaz Samet and that you an get in this link:
I started with some ideas of using some well known themes to skin this clock and as worked with it I started to like the results and got carried away cause I was enjoying it too much and what started as the idea of doing only a few skins turned into 72 different skins/or variations.
And I also did them in two different resolutions (HR - high res & LR - low res) because of the different performance of older CPUs. Please if you do decide to use the clock and the the skins read the About Pdf document carefully so you do not bog your CPU down by using an inappropriate skin or setting for your CPU.
Normally Alwact runs with about 1% to about 4% of CPU power but I did some pretty high resolution ones for people with higher performing processors and with the future in mind cause 4k monitors are around the corner to prevent them from shrinking to too small a size when that happens.
I can use all of the high res ones with no problems whatsoever cause my CPU is an Intel i7 920 (first generation most affordable i7) with triple channel DDR3 1333 Mhz memory and even this “smaller” of the i7s is no slouch but for people with much older processors if they use the HR skins CPU use could spike very high (even as bad as 65% or more) and for those people they can use the LR ones cause at half the resolution there are only a quarter of the pixels and CPU usage drops dramatically so to very low percents.
So do not be afraid of experimenting with the program and the skin packs cause I have been using them for quite a while now and I have not had any issues with it whatsoever.
You can install both the HR and the LR ones cause the folders are named differently accordingly. I have them all installed in my PC so I can choose high res or low res as I want at any moment.
Here you can see them much better (once they show click on the image to see larger version):

You can download the packs here at Deviantart:

And as usual my Mediafire backup download folder:

Look for them in the Mods folder.
I though that some of you may like this cause many of them are Sci-Fi themes based. Try them, when you see them animated they look rather cool. You may want to check the Star Wars, Star Trek or Tron and Tron Legacy ones in particular but there are many other things.
If the animation of the seconds hand looks too jerky try changing the timing to 25 milliseconds refresh which is were I set it and they run very smoothly in my computers. So that’s it, I hope that you like them.
