Free Web Space?

yeah well photoshop would take me 1 month to afford, and maya would take me about 4 months.

this is assuming i am living for free and don’t have any other expenses.

and it didn’t take me any longer finding or learning blender or the gimp than it does the other software, so really there is no disadvantage to useing them.

but free hosts have amny disadvantages.

www.zone.ee

http://f2o.org/ is excellent and ad-free.

http://2w.ca/ is amazing - if you’re willing to make 50 good posts at their forums, you can get 250MB space and 10GB bandwidth with PHP, MySQL, and all the extras for free AND it’s ad-free - my site is hosted there at: http://iindigo3d.com/

… iindigo have you visited 2w.ca recently? I tried going there and it said they were closing up.

Aww man that sucks… :frowning:

In my search for another free host I found this place: http://www.lifelesspeople.com/ …similar to 2w.ca, but with more space and such. You are required to make 50 posts at their forums and stay an active member.

Ahh yes, but a lot of us are 15-year old (points at self) and younger kids that can’t work because of school but need hosting, sometimes in a major way.

Not all of them…Some of them is very good

www.100webspace.com - didn’t sign up myself, but looks promising. You might want to give it a shot. All sorts of features, 1 GB of bandwidth, free. Also, there are a lot of $10/year hosts out there that you could gived a shot at.

Well ok, technically I have the money to pay for hosting, but I have to share my bank account with my parents, so they can withdraw they money at any time without notice, so…

WHY.

thats F-ed up.

my parents signed me off with the bank for an eftpos card at 10 years old. normally banks won’t allow one till you are 13 without your folk permssion. but still they had no power over it.

you guys know that you spend MORE TIME looking for a good free provider, than it would take you to get enough money from a paper-run or mcdonalds job. in order to buy your own space.

you’re assuming everyone lives in a free society where there’s a Mcdonald in every corner and there’s plenty of jobs to go around :<

Just a warning to people who try the sites that offer free bandwidth in return for posting in their forums. I tried that out at www.beigetower.org - it’s supposed to be one of the best ‘free’ web hosts as rated by a site with links to 100s of free hosts. I posted there for about 1 month trying to get hosting and they never gave it to me.

Normally it takes about that time to rack up some posts. However, they are usually forums that you can’t express an honest opinion. Any sign of arguing or whatever and you’re in line for the boot.

An example of how extreme it was, there was a post on the forum asking who likes Bjork and I said I didn’t like her, she sounded like a cat caught in the wheel of a car and she wore a stupid swan outfit. That, I thought was an honest opinion but the mod didn’t think so.

IMO, they are a complete waste of time and just one little slip up or you upset some closed-minded people and they’ll delete your site.

I hate having to butt-kiss to get anything. Thank God this forum has open-minded moderators.

From my experiences, I think paying for hosting is the easiest way to get what you want and quality of service but that’s the case with most things in life. They say money can’t buy you love but try telling that to a tramp. For people who have no easy way to pay for hosting or just don’t want to because it’s not that critical, I reckon either geocities or possibly tripod (I’m checking it out now) are best.

Has anyone had any specific problems with tripod i.e discovered limitations or such before I go to the trouble of uploading. How does it compare with geocities?

yes i am assuming that.

I guess I’d have to agree with alltaken on that one… if you live in an ok neighborhood, it is extremely possible to get a job… go next door and do some yardwork for crying out loud!

lol I used to have 2 different drug dealers in my neighborhood, so i got A LOT of money doing yard work… then of course there was a raid on one of their houses (i didn’t think New Hampshire had a S.W.A.T. team; nor did I think it was really necessary to bring in a team of specialists to raid a friggin’ TRAILER), so they were gone and the other ones just decided they’d just pick up and move one night… so now I’m working on a farm (but once winter comes I’m thinking of going to work at Wal*Mart or something)

BTW I looked into it and I guess there’s actually a S.W.A.T. training camp in NH, about and hour’s drive or so from my house.

Exactly what kind of yardwork did you do? :expressionless:

Just like raking leaves, mowing the lawn, etc etc.
Like I said, they were dealers; they had the money to waste. Ususally they’d give me about $50, where if I went to any other neighbors and done the same I’d have gotten anywhere from $5-$20.
I realize it was “bad” money, and that I should have gone to the other people instead, but I was like, 13 at the time…of course I did what LOOKED best in my eyes (which was getting a larger wad of $)

HAHA, good one theeth. $10 is a bit high don’t you think?

Well, considering you suck harder than geocities, it tells a lot about your services :stuck_out_tongue:
