@T.K.
Thanks for your continued hard work to bring all of us an ever better creative tool with which to express our freestyle aspirations!
i second this. i really wish i had the knowledge to help you… just knowing you are planning these things for the future means that at one time i’ll be able to use purely blender for my work. Freestyle already has some features that beat waht i’m dong now, like the distance modifier.
thanks so much. I haven’t decided yet whether I can, but i’m planning on using freestyle and blender for my thesis film due for may.
here is the first little short i made as the basis for the narrative short i’m working on now. If i decide i can use freestyle to accomplish this i will let you know.
if the intersection lines happen within a few months, i for sure will use it.
regardless, i will probably use it for at least a small part of the short, so i’ll keep you posted.
Good news.it is amazing!

Thanks guys for the comments, and ikeahloe, the video is very impressive. I liked the facial

.blend file configured for freestyle in the build ? For easy use ?
Just to inform you that I added support for animation of line style parameters in revision 31988.
Now it should be pretty easy to make color, alpha and thickness animate by keyframes.
Let me know if you find problems with the animation of line style parameters.
I just saw the animation commit!!! Thank you TK, cant wait to test it out!
freaking sweet sir. i wish I could buy you a coke.
Wow, I wish I had the time to do things right, great job!
@TK: I have got a small bug for you in this file: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0BzMd3f4c0nhCMWQ4MTA1OWItNGY3Yi00Y2NhLWJiZWItMDIxZDdhOTRjZDcx&hl=en.
If you use the style module included, you should find that it will crash on render. If you reduce the crease angle to, say, 150 then it doesn’t crash (for me, anyway). Probably something to do with my style module (qi0 doesn’t crash, for example), but sometimes these things are useful to understand and squash anyway.
If you’d rather we posted bugs somewhere else then do say so, of course.
edna,
Thank you for the problem report. Could you please double check the URL for the file?
I could not download the file, as the URL brought to me an empty page…
It would be awesome if this software could produce lines and shading in the style of the underground-comix artists like Gilbert Shelton, Basil Wolverton, and Robert Crumb.
where can we donate
+1, so much hard work has gone into FreeStyle integration into blender. Thank you T.K., Maxime, and everyone else!!!
I have looked into doing Basil Wolverton like shading, but ran into two major stumbling blocks with doing so with current freestyle.
- Round tips on the end of lines. It can be faked at the moment, but is very rough.
- All freestyle lines must have a beginning and an end. You cannot do for instance a closed outline. Again, it can be faked, but becomes very apparent when working with thicker lines.
Of course, we are really just complaining that freestyle is merely pretty super awesome as opposed to insanely super awesome.
Donation is very welcome. Please take a look at the FAQ entry below
Well, personally I won’t accept money for this project, just because I am doing this for fun.
But I really appreciate the willingness to help the project financially. Thanks.
Dazzle,
Yes, the two things should definitely be part of future work in the Freestyle integration project.
Over the last three weeks, I was also investigating how to support line joining such as miter,
round, and bevel line joining. Apparently, all the line tips, line joining and close strokes need
to be addressed together. I will discuss this in the next blog post.
@T.K. I’m already a blender donor. its very kind of you to not accept donations for your talented/hard work on Freestyle integration in Blender.
Hi
I have tried some new Python Style : the japanese Brush, and I have modify a little this file.
I have to say, that with this style, the rendering with freestyle is really incredible and Freestyle is an amazing rendering engine ! So powerfull !
Here are just 2 tests (the beautiful line are made with freestyle :
And another test with a background (a quick compo to see the result, that I find really good ;)).
So I would like to thank again TK and the devs for your incredible and beautiful work with freestyle, which is a great renderer !
Thanks again.
Wow, very impressive renders! I liked the atmosphere of the downtown street in which
the charater fits nicely.
The character seems to be modeled very carefully so that you add those edges that you
want to have and remove those that you don’t want. Was it a lot of work?
Blendman, wonderful pictures, especially the second one!
