If you download the windows zip file you will find a prebuilt executable. Then you can generate viewmaps load python modules and create an artistic NPR render in seconds. It is very cool - try it!
The problem is that Freestyle isn’t importing the .3ds files that Blender exports. The .3ds files provided with Freestyle work as you would expect and Blender successfully imports these files but the exported meshes from Blender are incompatible (“radius is negative” error) even when everything is triangulated.
I would be very grateful if someone could help me out here. Unfortunately, I do realise that the “Other Software” forum isn’t exactly throbbing with activity. Anyway, I’ll try to keep my hopes up.
I got to know freestyle recently, and it’s amazing :). the obvious drawback is however the “incompatible” .3ds files. I wouldn’t blame blender directly, since the 3ds exporter is a python plugin. Maybe a call to the author of the plugin could help here? I just don’t quite remember who wrote it.
I have hope that a tighter integration is possible, since freestyle is python based. Having such a versatile NPR in blender would be another killer feature.
Perhaps both of you would like to know the problem - code was commented out that crashed 3DStudio but which was needed by freestyle. See the thread here:
Sorry for bumpping such old thread!
I tried Freestyle NPR and I liked it
However the exported 3ds file from Blender didn’t appeared in the renderer. So probably the problem stays.
The solution: I just reexported the file through Anim8or with Dummy 3DS KData option enabled and it worked!
