I’ve been an Autocad user for a long time (due to work) and I recently I started learning Blender… So far so good, sometimes overwhelming but thats normal I think .
Now, in Autocad there were some commands I used a lot when modeling in 3D. And i’m wondering or these commands also exist in Blender…
1: Walk (& fly - I discoverd the SHIFT+F what is like the fly command in Acad. it’s nice… although not THAT nice since I work with a AZERTY keyboard layout. But hej, I’m used to it by now.)
The more importing thing is the WALK command. With this command you are able to really walk in your 3D model, like a FPS with the with keyboard and mouse. You can give the camera (“your head with eyes”) a height and it would just stay there, so you could move arround without a changing height.
Together with a realistic, perspective view you could get a very nice feel of what you had made so far, and you were able to just stop the walking, and add a camere too were you were looking. I really need this, BAD…
2: Purge - this command throws all the unused stuff from a drawing at once! stuff you inserted once and not use anymore… blocks, textures, whatever… It makes drawings significantly lighter.
3: Setting render quality / presets without having to go from on menu to the other…
you can set your stuff up for the game engine, and then record what you do in the game to an animation curve. it’s in one of the top menus if i recall.
Allright thanks Modron, but I was more thinking of a “one button” command. Something like: activate it, walk around a little bit, and close… and proceeed with modeling.
It just seems strange if it doesn’t exist. Maybe it exists like an add-on or smt. I tried searching on google but the results are more for walking in animation…
c’mon guys, I need some pro’s to see this post!!! (no offend)
I’m currently using the Fly navigation, but still…
And is it possible to change the keys to that? I have AZERTY keyboard.
And what about the “purge” option I mentioned. Do Blender drawings not require to get rid of all unused stuff you once needed and inserted/added? So the drawing would get lighter and faster…
And what about Render quality. Can you change that with one touch/click of a button? Like a toggle between predefined qualities (draft, low, medium, high, presentation)?

You decide when you want to remove materials/textures.

I assume you are talking about the internal renderer. There are render presets but you have to decide what complexity of the various settings you want to use, such as % resolution, level of anti-aliasing, raytracing on/off, shadows on/off etc. In the Scene settings there is a simplify section which allows you to make global quality settings of some of the parameters that have a big impact on render time.

But for the purge I was more aiming at smt like a “one button” action. In Autocad this is mostly done at the end of a drawing before you send it… To remove unused stuff and decreasing filesize. And more importend, to remove the “intellegent” links of used stuff. that are not needed anymore… I think I have to search this one out myself…
