From the ashes of mrViewer, mrv2 and vmrv2 arise

Sorry for the promotional post. If this is inapropiate, please let me know.

Many blender users have been using and enjoying mrViewer for years, but they may not be aware of the recent development of my newer open source viewers mrv2 and vmrv2.

mrv2 is an OpenGL viewer that tailors to the users with less powerful systems while vmrv2 works with Vulkan like recent blender versions and targets users with more recent machines for even better performance, including upcoming aarch64 and arm64 machines.
Both players, unlike others on the market today, handle color properly, using either tone mapping (OpenGL) or HDR (Vulkan).
The drawbacks of mrv2 and vmrv2 are mainly that they are more cumbersome to install if you are on macOS (Windows and Linux are straight forward).
mrv2 and vmrv2 are free to use, but they have tier versions based on user donations to access more advanced features and support their development.

The feature set of the players is big:

  • OpenTimelineIO.
  • OpenEXR, PNG, TIFF, Camera RAW formats
  • Compare A/B/Wipe/Overlay/Add/Multiply.
  • New UI supporting floating and docking panels and multiple screens support
  • Fullscreen and Presentation modes.
  • Linux, macOS and Windows.
  • Linux compatability from Rocky Linux 8.10 to recent Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.
  • Saving of movies with audio.
  • OpenUSD support on mrv2.
  • Support for all sort of video and image formats.
  • Fastest caching and playback on the market today.
  • ComfyUI support with the ComfyUI-mrv2 add-on.
  • Unlocking features are yearly and work for both programs.
  • Scrubbing and frame stepping with audio.

Donation tiers per year:

  • Solo (U$ 25)
    • Annotation Tools
  • Standard (U$ 50)
    • All of Solo and Python support for one year
  • Edit (U$ 75)
    • Standard + Editing for one year
  • Pro (U$ 150)
    • Voice and Link annotations for faster group reviews
  • Pro+ (U$ 300)
    • All of Pro but instead of being node-locked, you own it and can change machines as many times as you want.
  • For facilities working on features, it also offers:
    • Autodesk Flow integration with an optional plug-in.
    • Local TCP reviews for those wanting to keep data confidential.
    • For facilities with artists at different locations, it also offers WebRTC support.
