The project I started long ago and dropped, now continued it and was working on it for quite a bit of time. I took the idea from Fisherman’s Bastion photograph.
Blender 2.79 latest builds (to get Bevel node), Cycles render.

Nice work ! It looks like some place in Hogwarts
Looks great so far. Will there be props in the scene?
I don’t think I will add any props, I was intending to get view similar to those shot by a tourist.
I understand. Would be nice though to have a few things lying around because it looks empty right now. Also I would play with the lighting a bit. Maybe change the direction of the sun so it highlights the tower in the middle of the composition. Right now there’s almost even lighting everywhere.
The parts that are actually modeled look quite nice.
Unless this was on the top of a high mountain though, having some background elements far from the foreground would help quite a bit. I would also look at making some of those trees 3D if you can spare the RAM.
this is really amazing !!!
@mrgesy @Ace_Dragon @alf0 thanks for the feedback, that’s interesting to know.
@Ace_Dragon those are fair points, I see there’s really no way to make fake but believable trees with planes due to view transform already applied to image which always makes this way wrong from the very beginning. I would model those trees but yes, sparing RAM was exactly what I was trying to avoid.
very photo realistic dude nice work!
Do you know more places then Hogwarts?
Thanks, Bart! First time there.
Really great work! That was back when the statues under the arches were under renovation, you could add those as well to be closer to the original -
OMG did that guy appear twice in the same picture ?
you mean the twins?
more importantly, note how casually the guy is taking a photo of the chick, pretending to take a picture of the statues!
great work… and thanks for the hind because of the bevel note… didn’t recognized, that the new 2,79b release has this included.
thanks and regards Egan
I featured on BlenderNation, have a great weekend
@bartv thank you!
@MichaelBenDavid thanks for the feedback!
@Egan_T_Guenthers thanks! glad it helped, yes, Bevel node is included though unfortunately its result is shown only in Rendered mode, not Material (in builds I tested).
@dan2 thanks for the feedback! yeah I thought about statues but decided to go with corridor which has only columns like on another side of entrance to get more curved surfaces and beveled edges.
