I started this project 3 months ago as a challenge to efficiently and procedurally set up every part of a specific themed environment. It started with research and thinking of a style I liked, after which I ended up with this! Altogether I think setting up the entire system (time pieced together into successive days) took me 4 days. However since then, I redid the entire system 3 times to try to set it up in new ways that are more effective and it got a little bit better every time!
I also slightly improved the style and coherence of the environment with every iteration going back and forth between geometry nodes and procedural texturing all while also trying to keep the performance high enough. A tricky balance!
I am currently redoing the setup again with slightly more attention to errors/glitches in the system and separating parts of the setup into individual chunks to make reusing it easier for other environments as well. At the same time I’m working on turning it into a beginner friendly course where I’ll explain exactly how to set this up with geometry nodes and procedural shaders, but also why I use the specific nodes and how they work.
Thanks! I’m guessing it took me a few days altogether. This includes building it, but also just playing around with texture styles, colours, and rendering stuff.
