Futuristic Neon Look

I have been working on a futuristic, scanlines look for a competition. This is a still from the video I am working on, I would particularly appreciate feedback on the scanlines effect (which is done completely in the compositor)

I like it, I think to make it a bit more discernible the scanlines should be wider. And the top bit where the image is really tearing doesn’t fit, it just makes it look like that part of the screen is going bad. Nice effect though, kind of curious how you did it, and what kind of additional overhead it adds to the rendertime from the compositing.

This might make more sense when I upload a video, but the scanlines are of varying thicknesses, and they sweep down. My inspiration was this http://25.media.tumblr.com/3afdb880341016c743886a7fc7edefce/tumblr_mnt2t5vMVF1r70wouo1_500.gif so at this point there are some scanlines too thin to discern, but most are a good thickness that they are discernible even when the video is small

I think it actually looks pretty good for what you are going for.

Looking awesome, I am really curious as to what the node setup is  (Could we have a look at it, I want to learn ^^)

This is my final video. It is for a competition for that “Get Lucky” remixed from different decades, which you can see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3r3BOZ6QQtU

I will post a tutorial soon, or at least screenshots of my various setups to get this effect

that’s really cool :3

Very cool, you’re right, the still doesn’t do it justice. Can’t wait to see how you did it.

OK I finally got around to that tutorial, here you go: http://mobyismotion.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/tutorial-futuristic-neon-look-in.html

Thanks for all the feedback. Don’t hesitate to ask questions if there is anything I haven’t explained well
