Galactic Football - A Short Sports Animated Film

(To sum this up: I’ve decided to put my efforts into making this short 24-minute film happen. I couldn’t quite put Blender away, even if I wanted to. But, I want some assistance with the characters and their textures since I can’t make them alone.)

Hello. I’m back at last with an all-new animation idea that I guess nobody in the community has tried at all. This film is called “Galactic Football”, a sports animated story where a team of young players are pitted against others in the Galactic World Cup–taking inspiration from the French 2D-, and 3D-, computer animated series “Galactik Football”.

My plans for this idea is to give it its spotlight after everything has been modeled/sculpted in Blender. I’m already in the process of writing the script to the film.

As for the pre-production, I’ll try and draw everything for the film myself. Since this is an idea no one has tried, I guess I’m the first to try this one out with Blender.

Before production, I’d like to have a sculptor for the characters once I have drawn them in my drawing program. He doesn’t need to be professional, just experienced with 3D, so that I can rig the characters after they’re made.

In post-production, I’ll find sound, and voice actors who might be interested in voicing the main characters of the short film.

And once everything has been rendered, I’ll upload it to YouTube for everyone to watch it.

(I hope that none of you folks has at least attempted at this idea - with a sports animated story - so I’ll try my best to animate the football fight in the film.)

Short film stats:
The Script: 1%
Storyboard: 1.5% (started)
Art: 0% (coming soon)
Characters: 0%
Environments: 0%
Animation: 0%
Voice Actors: 0%

That is all for this update. See you until Monday or Tuesday next week where I have, hopefully, the script finished by then.

Regards,
Daniel.

I’ve begun working on each of the seven main characters’ simple concept art style. This is the first character. I tried my best to make all three views simple and the same (except that the side is a little off in my opinion). The front view, however, came out as I wanted it after my fourth try on it.

Let me know what you guys think of this first male character I’ve made for the short film. Any constructive critic is welcome, as long it’s not negative on my first drawn character for my first animation.

Just a quick update I wanted to give you all. See you until the script is done.

Hi, you clearly need to do a bit of character design studying, here is a good start:

Thanks. I’ll see if I can do a better sketch of the character tomorrow. I just did that one in an hour’s time with little to no references on a football player.

I’ll clean it up on the computer once I finish the sketching of my character.

Okay, I did a much better sketch design of the first character. I had some tutorial on making the heads’ front and side view (as you can see).

I think I’ll continue on the script later today, and then hopefully get it finished either today or tomorrow. Once I have scanned this sketch into a drawing software, I’ll draw clean lines on the character to make it look better finished Sunday, I think.

Let me know what you guys think of the drawing.

Okay, I think this is going to be the final sketch of my first character for the short film. Honestly, I like this one more than the other drawings.

I’ll fix the tiny errors on the computer in a painting software. For now, I’m happy of how it turned out for the fourth attempt on the drawing.

Let me know what you all think of the picture.

I’m in the middle of modeling the football stadium where the two teams in the film play against each other. I would like to have some help in regards to how the stadium should look, and its length is also important (as it needs to be equally long on both side view).

I’m in parts going to be doing the 3D modeling on the assets seen in the film, while I’m writing the script and drawing the 2D art of the animation.

I’m also thinking of doing a technique where I use traditional drawn animation as well in its first 8 minutes before switching to 3D animation for the football fight scene. (This technique was used to animate the Galactik Football series by the French studio that made it.)

Anyone who helps me will be mentioned in the credits in the description of the finalized video.

Thanks in regards.

As this is still a WIP, I’m going to add the stadium to this football field that took me 20 minutes to render.

Tell me what you guys think of the render. Is it alright? Does it need improvement in the final scene? Or is it fine as it is? Let me know so I can improve it in the future.

Regards,
Daniel.
