GearBox. Blender sidescroller early DEMO

Thankyou guys for all the kind words! More to come by Wednesday!

Try fraps for screen capture  Its by far the best.

The game looks good so far!

Thankyou, I downloaded fraps, have no idea how to work it, then again I have free versio

Launch fraps, launch game, press f11 or f10 (i dont’ remember correctly) and you video is recording… and you can find it in MyDocuments or somewhere (you can change this location in the preferences)

Alright beautiful it only works in game right??

it works whenever you press the special key. You can quit the application if you dont’ want it to start recording whenever you accidentally press the key. Also If you are using the free version it only records for about 5mins i think.

Alright thankyou.

Sorry to everyone following this…will not have update until maybe Friday…

Hey guys I just wanted to show you an early model of the character designed by Zero200https://mail.google.com/mail/s/?view=att&th=12fbde1fd08a1e6b&attid=0.1&disp=attd&zw

It just keeps getting better!

Zero200 did a great job. That little guy fits in perfectly with the rest of your game’s look, but is more polished.

I know tank treads have been mentioned (and they would work), but I think retractable feet would suit him perfectly. With his legs retracted (when sitting still), he would look exactly like he does in the pic.

I also think you need a little more light in the environment.

Yes he did do a great job on it! Please explain more on the tank treads things. And about the light I was thinking adding some more spots coming from his eyes…? Like?

And I had another question. Well first off, Since gearbox is a very cartoonish game I have been leaving realism out, but I was wondering if I should add spec maps, normal maps or ao to my models in this game?

If you’re using GLSL, you probably should take advantage of at least a few specular maps, normal maps, lamps and shadows, etc. - otherwise, just go with multi-texture mode. Baked AO would be a nice addition, though it’s a bit of work to implement it across your game.

As for the character, spotlights (not necessarily an actual lamp, but just a cylindrical texture) would be good for the characters eyes. That’s a good idea.

Spots for his eyes are a good idea. Also more light in the level itself.

Here’s a sketch explaining what I was thinking about with the feet vs. treads:

What ll probably do is some baked ao, won’t be too hard…maybe normal map…as for the eyes if figured a way to do that. I do a really really dark shade of yellow make it look cone shaped in the texture and the. Set alpha. Then wala "3D Volumetric Lighting"Hahahaha btw thanks for the feedback solar Lune

@RobCozzens wow thankyou for the sketch much appreciated I’ll be sure to put some credit in for you. I really do like the little feet, then he can sort of lock up when he’s done walking. I’ll probably have an idol animation of him like moving up and down then after about 5 seconds he can go into lockmode haha thankyou again

This is gonna be awesome.

Haha thankyou much appreciated

Lol if he gets squished or something hes eyes should pop out lmao.

Haha thT would be pretty funny what I have to do now is just finish up tweaking xero200 's model so that he can go in game, then all I have left is fixing up the models, and making about 2 more stages then were at v2.0 Gearbox that will be the next video update.
