Gee Bee Super Sportster R-1 aircraft

This is one of my favourite airplanes, appearance-wise anyway, with that big stubby nose and sturdy fuselage.
The aircraft was made by the Granville brothers in 1932 and it is basically built around the biggest engine they could get hold of.
It was built specifically to win the 1932 Thompson Trophy race, which it did.

This red and white pattern is more similar to the plane’s original paintwork.

Thanks, have you seen one (or a replica) in real life? I haven’t.

No sadly I haven’t seen one in real life, just videos. I always wanted to. They almost look like a cartoon come to life.
