Generative Typographic Illustrations

Hi everyone,

Here’s a collection of some work I designed for a project last year. These are a series of generative typographic animations that were designed to be used as print illustrations.

These were created by generating particles based on typographic wireframes in Blender, and then subjecting them to varying turbulent forces. Others used scripts to create and deform wireframes. The result are living, animated typographic shapes, which counter the static idea of how a font or character should be represented.

I put together several dozen animations (some with multiple letters), of which around ten were chosen as illustrations. To better accentuate the shapes of each letter and make more complex shapes, I duplicated parts of the letters and placed them on separate layers, so particle systems could be influenced by different force fields without interfering with each other.

Some contain multiple particle systems, so that different waves of particles could be triggered at different times.

Really really creative and nice! I love it!!!

Thanks ivay! Here are some additional high-res renders from the project.
