getting rid of 1 triangle

Is there a technique or trick to get rid of a single triangle that is surrounded by quads?

I don’t think so, but it’s easy enough to simply delete the face, then add a vertices with CTRL+LMB and use FKEY to create faces.

That won’t work because of the fact that the triangle is surrounded by quads.
By adding that 1 extra vertice you quadify the original triangle but create a new one within one of the quads.

Okay. Could you post a shot of your vertices?

Hi,

this thread explains some ways to get rid of triangels.
I do not think it is possible to remove a triangle without adding some edge/vertex.

cut one side into the interior (knife loop cut). That will divide the outside quad into two quads, and add a vert to the triangle, making it a quad. http://screencast.com/t/FTDecpemV

This won’t work because you’ve oversimplified the problem, assuming that the mesh ends with the demo drawing above. In reality the mesh would continue with many more surrounding quads.

I think there is no answer to this problem.
So the real answer is be very careful when you make your mesh, and make sure it has no triangles.

Of course there is. We just can’t tell you what that is till we actually see the mesh. The diagram doesn’t cut it really.

Papasmurf didn’t oversimplify anything, he was working with the information he was given. If that information isn’t enough, it’s not his fault.

You will need at least 1 loop cut to make this work.

And yeah, watch out for tri’s as you are modelling.
