Ghibli/Borrowers WIP

Playing Pikmin had me think of The Secret World of Arrietty, Ghibli’s adaptation of The Borrowers by Mary Norton. I wanted to see how well the look of a low frame rate toon character would look in a more realistic setting, all done in Eevee. The character is a simple rig, with shader to rgb procedural textures and using the hull method for an outline. The setting is mostly photoscans integrated with vegetation from botaniq, which has helped add to the colorful Ghibli look. I used a shallow depth of field in this test shot to give the feeling of miniature photography, but it also helped to separate foreground and background as if this were a traditional animation. All the animation was done by myself, and I used Stop Mo by Southern Shotty to have the character move on 2s, selling the animated look. I’m pleased with the results so far, and am working on some more scenes to get a cool short animation!
