Try to on the abient aclusion. Make the plane bigger.
You might think about getting rid of that default background. Changing that can give you some better results right there. Try putting in a small gradient too. They look good too. Good luck.
i have done what u sayed and when i run Ambient oclusion my blender crashes and closes! i have ver 2.45 and i tried to make it better and the result is :-
