Ghostly Sniper

Full res here

I’ve used this little project as a sort of escape project. For when I get sick or tired of a current, more important thing I’m supposed to be doing, I cant just work on this.

So I thought, why post it in the finished projects forum when I know that there’s always some improvements to do? So… yeah, hence the focused crits section :stuck_out_tongue:

First off, he is holding the rifle wrong. The left hand does not go around the foregrip of a sniper rifle when a bipod is in place. It usually goes back towards the right shoulder, whether its on the stock or against the shoulder.

Another important consideration here will be the use of selective focus. The skeleton’s eyes need to be in sharp focus, even if the barrel is not and even if what’s left of his body also is not. Focus is a very powerful technique for positioning the point-of-interest exactly where you want it to be, and this image (I think…) needs that.

You can still leave the focus “just a little bit soft,” and perhaps you’ll choose to do that. That is to say, where “the plane of sharpest focus” is not quite sharp. That’s more of a mood thing.

The idea, I will say, is quite original and generally well-done.

ok, hows this?

Lighten up the DoF a little bit, right now it’s confusing because a lot of it’s blurry, and maybe go for a more dramatic angle, like right on top of the gun.

looks good I like the concept but the colours of the image are a bit washed out try using an “RBG curve” node to deepen the blacks but be sure not to over do it. maybe not so much DoF also try moving the camera closer to the the barrel of the gun (still looking at the character though) and decreasing the focal length of you cam.

Love it. Excellent work

Kinda wonder what the story behind it might be. Is he a sniper who died of exhaustion? Or an undead skeletal sniper in the desert?

Normal map the ground? maybe make it have some hills, rocks or any objects in the bg. Maybe ad some sandbags in front of the rifles legs. Other than that, it’s looking great, keep up the good work!

there are many rgb curves already, and changing them only makes it too bright or too dark. If it’s too bright, it just hurts the eyes. If it’s too dark, you cant see the skeleton’s face.
Not sure about the dof myself

Normal map the ground?

It has a bump map already…

I’m not going to get back to this one for a while since I have a short film to work on, but if ever I get bored and decide to come back, then your wish is my command
